Doge's Palace
The Doge was the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice, and this palace his dwelling.This particular palace traces back to 1172, year in which it was built, and entirely changed the appearance of St. Mark’s Square.Opened officially as a museum in 1923, it has survived in its long history, fires and floods, and has passed from hand to hand among Doges.It has a façade overlooking the lagoon, and is decorated with 14th Century sculptures.The Museo dell’Opera takes up 6 rooms of the palace where masterpieces of Venetian sculpture now find their home.
